Gambling Policy (Statement of Principles) 2021 Consultation

Gambling Policy (Statement of Principles) 2021 Consultation

The Gambling Act 2005 places a responsibility on local authorities to publish a gambling statement of principles (policy) every three years. The current policy is due to end in January 2022 therefore a consultation is being undertaken on the proposed revised policy.

The Gambling Act 2005 places a duty on the Council as the ‘Licensing Authority’ for gambling premises in the Borough. It requires that a licensing authority should aim to permit the use of premises for gambling in so far as it thinks it is:

  1. a) in accordance with any relevant code of practice or any guidance from the Gambling Commission;
  2. b) reasonably consistent with the licensing objectives; and
  3. c) in accordance with its gambling licensing policy.

The policy has been reviewed in full and there are no substantial changes proposed in relation to the policy itself.

The consultation will run from the 23 August 2021 to 23 October 2021

Information regarding this consultation will be sent to all responsible authorities, all ward councillors, a percentage of gambling premises within the borough, local resident groups and faith groups.
